General Instructions for Filmmakers

Equipment:
A decent microphone. Your best choice is probably a lavalier, also called a lapel mic. Interviews are the backbone of this film, and the sound can be the difference between an amateur film and a professional one.
A tripod. Some jiggle in the footage can be dealt with in edit, but try as best you can to provide steady, professional-looking video.
The camera is third in importance and needs to shoot in HD at 1080 pixels. You may even be able to use your smart phone. Avoid use of the zoom. When there is a need to bring the image closer, do so, but quickly, and then hold steady. Please shoot you film in HDMI 1080

Shooting the Video:
The recommended shooting mode 30 fps at 1080i
Audio recording levels setting between 18 and 12 decibles
Save as .mov file

NO NEED TO EDIT YOUR INTERVIEW FOOTAGE. All the editing will be done by the "Changing Plane'" editors.

If you are filming in another language, your film must be accompanied by a written or oral translation into English. If you have someone translating while you conduct the interview, they must be recorded separately from the film. Please use the clapper technique to make a sound so the translation can be linked and synched with the interview.

Release Forms:
You must have every one who appears in your film fill out a talent release which will be provided by Chameleon Productions.
A permission to use the footage must be filled out, signed by the filmmaker, and submitted along with the film you send. Chameleon Productions will provide you with the forms you'll need.

B Roll
If possible, please provide some establishing footage (the home of the subject, the area surrounding, any documents the subject might have that backs their story. Footage of traditional funeral rites is particularly welcome.

Music
Footage of local musicians playing traditional, non-copyrighted music. Ethereal, haunting, other worldly original music is being sought for the soundtrack. Any music submitted needs to be accompanied by a talent release, and for original compositions would need an artist’s creation release, to be provided by Chameleon Productions.
